newcomer's group

Our special newcomer's group is a small group designed specifically for those who want to find out more about New River Church. This group is led by Doug and Karis Rowse and meets every Sunday night at 6pm at New River. We cover our four basics listed below. Attend this group and you'll have a pretty good idea about who we are and what we are all about.  Call or text Doug Rowse at 860 729-4223. Childcare is provided.

Enjoy Jesus

Jesus is not just a religious icon, He is an enjoyable Person to know.  He desires to have a growing and intimate friendship with each one of us.  We express our enjoyment of Jesus through worship, prayer and the study of His Word.  For us, these things are more than religious activities, they are vital in our connection with Jesus.  In "basics 1" we talk about how to develop these essential habits that increase our enjoyment of Jesus.  At the end of this class, students are given the opportunity to sign up for believer's baptism if they have not already obeyed the Lord in this way.

Encourage People

Christianity is a team sport.  God designed the church so that we would have friends who can walk with us, serve with us and grow in Christ with us.  Life truly is best when lived together.  In "basics 2" we talk about our Life Groups and other ministries which are designed to help people stay connected and growing in faith together.  At the end of this class, you will be introduced to some groups that you can visit and we will help you get connected.

Equip Disciple-Makers

We believe that there is no greater joy than to help someone else grow in their relationship with Jesus.  This process is called "disciple-making".  In Christ, each of us has something to give to another.  Making disciples is an investment of our time as we intentionally help someone else to grow in their walk with Jesus. In "basics 3" we will help you discover how God has uniquely enabled you to serve others and how you can use that to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Engage Culture

Engaging culture is natural for a disciple of Jesus.  After all, Jesus said that we are "salt and light".  As a church, we encourage our people to get involved in the community.  As we do, we build bridges and create opportunities to tell others about Jesus Christ.  Jesus is the best thing that could ever happen to someone and we want to influence the world with His goodness and grace.  In "basics 4" we will talk about some of the ways New River is involved in the region and you will get an opportunity to join us.
